Radford Semele to Warwick – Moored in Saltisford Canal Centre

Monday 23rd May

Monday we travelled 5 more miles and 2 locks from Radford to Warwick and are now moored in the Saltisford Canal Cantre, where we intend to stay for about a week. It was a fairly uneventful trip through Leamington which is a nice town to visit by bus but bloody awful by boat!

We were going to stop at Tesco’s on the way through but couldn’t get on the moorings so we gave it a miss. There is a Sainsbury’s about 10 minutes walk from where we are moored so we can do several trips for shopping while we are here.

When we got to the locks at the Cape I was temporarily thrown by the fact that they were now going up and not down. I was under the impression that we didn’t start going up until the Hatton flight the other side of Warwick. As we have done these locks 3 times before you would think I would remember!

We arrived at the Canal Centre about 10-30am and Ken had to reverse nearly down to the bottom of the arm from the winding hole to moor up. It was very busy and we were lucky not to have to breast up to another boat.  We have also been lucky thus far not to have anyone breasted up to us either.

Since we have been here I have cleaned the boat but as we are moored up under a tree there is a certain amount of detritus and bird poo on it again already! I have also replaced the blacking which we have knocked or scraped off lately. Ken has done some remdial work on some of the light fittings and sorted out his nuts (and bolts obviously)!

Tomorrow I am getting my first hair cut since February. The hairdresser is putting up the scaffolding as I write!
