Hartshill to the Ashby Canal – And again with the lovely weather!

It’s been yet another lovely day and we have travelled another 7 miles from Hartshill, through ‘Allotment Central’ (Nuneaton) to the start of the Ashby Canal. We are moored between bridges 3 and 4. We usually moor at Bulkington Bridge (5) but it’s a bit claustrophobic there with trees both sides of the canal. It’s popular too because it has a concrete edge with mooring rings and it is also right near the road in to the village, so we stopped in the open.

It’s not exactly tranquil here as Bridge 4 is a railway bridge and the trains are very frequent! However, the trains don’t really bother us as much as being moored with a load of other boats.

After mooring up we walked to Whitestone, a suburb of Nuneaton. It took about 10 minutes to get to Bridge 5 and a further 10 minutes to get to the shop. Well, we actually didn’t go to the shop as the garage was on the side of the road we were on and all we wanted was a paper.

We then walked back to The Corner House for a pint and to look at the bus times because we are going to Nuneaton tomorrow for shopping, fish and to watch the last Championship match of the season at The George Eliot.

This afternoon and evening we have basically been lazing about. I’m still recovering from yesterday’s exertions! Well, I’m not as young as I used to be. God knows what I’ll be like when I’ve done Stockton Locks (10 doubles) The Hatton Flight (21 doubles), 19 of the Lapworth Locks and the Tardebigge Flight (31 singles) in the next few weeks!

At least I now have a few days lock free to enjoy.
