What a Day! – Alternator Trouble.

Thursday 22nd April.

We had noticed that the inverter kept switching itself off after a period of time which was shorter than you would expect on 3 hours charging of the batteries. Leading Ken to believe that the batteries were not holding their charge properly. He tested them and discovered they indeed did not have much charge in them. Another 3 hours charging only produced about 3 hours running time and we were getting a bit worried. There is a boat yard at the junction and Ken asked them if they would test the batteries when we leave tomorrow, they said they would. If we needed new batteries we could get them there. We thought it was strange that all 4 leisure batteries would have gone at once, the starter and bow thruster batteries were ok. As we sat there with the engine running, yet again, who should come along but Barry and Barbara! They were moored at Little Haywood and stopped for a chat. Cutting a long story short Barry suggested Ken check the alternator connection and it was indeed loose. We are now charging properly again, thank God (and Barry!)

We have moved along the bank a little way in an attempt to find a tv signal and are able to get all the BBC channels now but no ITV. The internet signal is very hit and miss here as well! But the wonderful scenery is worth it. You will get to see it if I stay connected long enough to get my photos on!

In other news – We still couldn’t get George to walk to the pub today. He did go a few yards further than yesterday but gave up again, lazy bugger! His loss. Never mind, maybe tomorrow?
