Wednesday 21st April
Another hugely taxing day, with a distance of 3 miles travelled and 1 lock to do! It was FREEZING this morning when we set off, brrr! Another hat and gloves job. However, it did get out nice later on. We are near to Great Haywood Junction where the Staffs and Worcester canal comes in. We had already decided we wanted to stay near Shugborough Hall as it is a lovely spot to moor with beautiful English scenery. As usual when we tried to moor up we found it was too shallow! But we moved on a bit and found a good place. Neither the tv aerial or the satellite dish seem to produce a signal here so we are spared the nightly serving of dross! However, I dare say we would have watched the European football if we could.
After mooring we decided to investigate Great Haywood. George went about 50 yards and probably remembering yesterday, didn’t want to come! He missed out on the Clifford Arms, a pub with 6 real ales! Not that that would have interested him greatly! Good job we didn’t sample them all or we would have had trouble finding our way back! Hopefully George will be of a mind to come with us tomorrow as we have decided to stay here another day.
On our return from Great Haywood I decided, in my wisdom, to clean the cratch and the front of the boat. This, of course, showed up the rest and I ended up doing all that side! After this my enthusiasm ran out so the water side remains dirty! Maybe Ken will do it when we next moor up on the other side! After a cup of tea and a naughty Eccles cake I spent the rest of the afternoon hoovering and ironing, lovely! You know what they say about woman’s work?
This evening, with no tv – Ken is fishing, I am doing this and George is snoring! Well, he would be doing that anyway. All in all a really relaxing day (despite the housework!) Hoping for more of the same tomorrow.
