Well, we did walk to Leicester yesterday. After Friday’s obvious climactic blip the weather was appalling, foggy and dull, making Belgrave even more depressing than usual! Someone had, very cleverly, tried to fell some small trees along the way and block both the towpath and the river. An unsuccessful attempt on both counts, but resulting in a bit of a mess.
On the bus on the way back (yes we only walked one way!) we encountered a lovely lady, from Luxemburg of all places, who was delighted to have, what she termed, a proper conversation! She started this conversation with us as a result of hearing Ken using the word ‘mediocrity’. She was so engrossed in talking to us she nearly missed her stop! I have to say it was a pleasure to talk to her too. We do miss our intelligent friends!
I am going on a boat handling course when we return from Suffolk. Ken hasn’t really got round to teaching me yet so we have decided I would probably benefit from expert tuition. I can drive on the straight and negotiate bridges and corners but am far from confident at other manouvres, such as entering locks and ‘parking’ etc! After I have done the course hopefully we can share the driving and the locks. As I seem to have tennis elbow at the moment it will be a good thing!
More soon.
