We got back to Thurmaston yesterday (Wed) morning. We spent Tues night near the ‘Hope and Anchor’ and despite the ‘2 steaks and a bottle of wine for £15’ offer having ceased we did have the steaks. And jolly nice they were too! It rained quite a bit over night and yesterday morning the river was up a bit so we beat a hasty path to our mooring. Good job we did as the river then went up about a foot and into the red, so we would have been stuck at the ‘Hope and Anchor’ (not a bad place to get stuck but there’s no water or electric for boaters!) until it went down again.
Anyway, here we are and I am currently working my way through the European washing and drying mountain. Using my own machine and the washing machine and tumble dryer on site as well, I should have it cleared by this time next week! You don’t realise how much stuff you get through until you collect it up for a couple of weeks!
George had a lovely day yesterday, visiting his favourite pub in Birstall. He actually walked quite fast and we were in danger of getting there before they opened! However, a young couple had got their narrowboat stuck across the river at Whiles Lane, trying to turn round, so Ken and several other chaps spent about 15 minutes trying to get them unstuck. Unfortunately they were unsuccessful in their efforts but at least they tried to help. Anyway this all filled in the time until the pub opened!
There is a ‘do’ on at the WMC tonight and several of our neighbours are going to it. We have been asked if we want to go but, being a right pair of anti social old buggers, who, incidentally, can’t stay awake past 10pm, we have decided to give it a miss! With a bottle of champagne (which we will no doubt drink before midnight!), some nice food and rubbish on the tv, we will be quite happy.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish our reader (you know who you are!) a very Happy New Year. Cheers.
