Tuesday 6th August – The Old Git’s Birthday!

Tuesday 6th August

Today was the Old Git’s, oops sorry I mean Ken, my lovely husband’s, 63rd birthday and he started the day with a senior moment extraordinaire! He tried to put his polo shirt on with the coat hanger still inside, bashing himself in the face with it! Bless.

At about 8-15 Graham, the chimney sweep, appeared at the hatch, we were still having our fruit so he came back later. He is a really nice chap, full of local information and a little bit of gossip too. He plays the Irish drum called a Bodhran and the banjo as well I think (but not at the same time), in jamming sessions at The Three Horseshoes. He did a good job of the chimney, making no mess at all, unlike when I do it, mind you he does have an industrial hoover! He also did a smoke test to see if we had any leaks and even gave us a safety certificate. All for £35, excellent.

As it was still fairly early when Graham had finished the chimney we decided we may as well get down to Gloucester today taking advantage of the fine weather. So off we went arriving at Sainsbury’s, our first port of call, about 12 pm. After another mega shop we moved up to a mooring just in front of the lightship. This is a secure mooring which needs a BW key to access it and is on the same pontoon as several permanent moorings and the waterpoint, elsan etc, before Llanthony Bridge. So we have moored in 4 different places in Gloucester now!

Moving to here today was a good thing for a couple of reasons. It meant the 12 months worth of data on my dongle which expired today could be replaced. I was able to buy a 12GB sim only this time, instead of a whole new dongle. This cost just over £70 which is not bad for a whole year’s worth of internet access.

The other good thing was that as it was Ken’s birthday we would be able to go to a nice restaurant for dinner. We plumped for Vinings Thai and Indian Buffet restaurant in the docks and had an excellent meal. Well, several meals actually, as with it being a buffet we tried several different dishes. The whole experience was brilliant and we would definitely go there again.

All and all a very pleasant day.
