Nottingham to Trent Lock

We have made it back to Trent Lock today. I have to say I have never been so cold in my whole life, after an hour on the tiller, while Ken went indoors to warm up! My lips actually turned blue and my teeth were chattering. I had to have a couple of medicinal rums, my timbers were well and truly shivered!

We now have filled up with water again and I am looking forward to a shower and hair wash later (I’m easily pleased)! That was a bit of a trial in itself because our first choice tap, at Beeston lock, was in use when we arrived and as we moored up to wait a boat came out of the lock and needed to moor where we were to pick up the crew! We had to go into the lock before we had got water to get out of the way! I tell you what, in the past week we have seen about 3 moving boats and then today a traffic jam, unbelievable! So we had to get water at Cranfleet Lock which is a really slow fill. We stood shivering on the bank for about half an hour as the water trickled in to the tank! Also, there is no elsan disposal point at Cranfleet, like there is at Beeston, so I will have to go to the facilities at Trent Lock when we get there and empty the loo.

We have managed quite well with the water we got last week, considering, but there is no substitute for the old hot and cold running, on tap, if you’ll pardon the pun!

‘The Navigation’ (yeah yeah that old chestnut) at Trent Lock was chocker with dogs this afternoon so George missed out on a trip there again. He hasn’t been to the pub since ‘The Navigation’ (I know!) in Nottingham closed for refurbishment on Xmas Eve so he’s getting withdrawal symptoms! Maybe we’ll get him to the ‘Anchor’ at Kegworth tomorrow.

Oh shite, just realised, I have forgotten to go round to the facilities and empty the loo. It is now pitch dark and pissing with rain. The joys of boating are never ending……………….!
