It is now Boxing Day and the temperature has at last gone up a few degrees, hurrah! We have spent the last week skating between the boat and the pub and the boat and the shops so it’s nice to be able to walk places properly! Mum and Dave did really well travelling over here from Gunthorpe 3 days running to see us as we couldn’t get there. The weather has been rather unconducive to road travel (as well as boat travel), with frost and fog, so it was a supreme sacrifice for them to do the journeys. John and Kath came today as well and we have had a really nice time. However, we wouldn’t make plans to definitely get somewhere by a certain time in the Winter again as the weather can be so unpredictable (I suppose it can in Summer too come to that).
As it has warmed up a bit we have decided to start our return journey tomorrow while there is a chance of finding an unfrozen water point! It will be nice to have a shower again! The washing mountain is taking over the back room too (I never did find the launderette)!
Cold weather is forecast again in a few days so we are reluctantly going back to Thurmaston to regroup before planning our continuous cruising. We have decided to give up the mooring as it is pointless paying for a permanent mooring when you are not planning on being there much (unless it is a really nice one in a prime spot, which ours isn’t!). We may find another one on our travels which we feel it worth hanging on to.
This last trip has been, wait for it……….. a ‘learning curve’ (aagh I HATE that expression) in terms of winter cruising and we will be better prepared for bad weather next time we hope.
