Tuesday 23rd and Wednesday 24th July
Yesterday we stayed at Shepherd’s Patch and went to the Wildfowl and Wetland Trust at Slimbridge. We had a really good time staying nearly 4 hours. I won’t bore you with the details, anything you want to know you can look up online. I did however take, brace yourselves, 162 photos! Many of them will end up in the gallery, after I have sorted them all out and can remember what all the birds were called!
Today we travelled 2 miles from Shepherd’s Patch to Purton and moored just downstream from Purton Lower Bridge. We went for a walk to the banks of the River Severn, not a stone’s throw from here. We passed the Berkley Arms, noting that they didn’t open until 7 pm during the week!
We continued our walk and discovered the Ship’s Graveyard. This is where over 80 FCB’s (concrete boats), schooners, lighters and barges were beached along the banks of the Severn to shore up the banks and stop erosion. It is a very interesting place and info can be found here – www.friendsofpurton.org.uk.
I, of course, have taken another load of photos to delight you with which will appear soon as well.
Tomorrow we are going to complete the G and S by going the last mile or so to Sharpness.
