We are still in Nottingham and as this icy grip is still upon us we have got to stay here for the forseeable. Things are dire on the water point front, with all of them frozen between here and Gunthorpe, according to BW. Even the one in the marina here is frozen at the moment! We spoke to some people who arrived from the Holme Pierrepoint on the Trent today and they were glad to be here and not still there! At least we are in easy reach of facilities here, ie shops, elsan disposal, coal, gas, diesel and water if it ever thaws out! The marina has a laundrette we can use too as we don’t want to use what water we have got for washing clothes! We think we are best staying here really.
Yesterday we did as we said we would and walked a quite enthusiastic George to the Navigation Inn. Where as you will remember we had ascertained that he would be allowed in and also what their opening time was. Well, we arrived a little early, having underestimated the enthusiasm of our dog to get there for 12pm! We wandered about until 12-15pm but no one opened the pub! George was somewhat disgruntled as we walked him all the way back to the boat, then buggered off to the Beefeater across the road without him!
Having decided to stay here now we thought we would get George on the same walk again to take him to the Navigation today. As he remembered what a fruitless exercise it had been yesterday he was rather uncooperative! However we persevered with him and he made it in the end, taking 45 mins to do a 15 min walk! He had a lovely time in the pub, especially as a nice lady shared her cheese burger with him and gave him lots of pats! We discovered that this pub does not actually open on Sundays at all so why the chap told us it did we don’t know!
So here we are, Christmas in Nottingham.
