Nottingham at last!

I write from Castle Marina in Nottingham, having arrived here early this afternoon. It was touch and go this morning as to whether we would move today. Last night was FREEZING!!!! and we awoke to a severe frost again. We went round to the facilities on the Erewash to investigate the water availability situation and empty the elsan. The water in the Trent Lock was frozen and the actual canal was frozen over too!  It didn’t come as much of a surprise to find that the water point was also frozen!

I decided that the best thing to do was to walk up to Cranfleet Lock and see if the water point there was also frozen. If it was then we may as well stay where we were and see if we could fill our water containers at the pub. George didn’t want to go for a walk that early, preferring to laze by the fire, (no change there then!) so we left him behind. As luck would have it the water point at Cranfleet was ok so we decided to move on to Nottingham.

As cruising days go it was ideal, bright, no wind, a bit cold but not unbearable and the river was really calm. We had a really pleasant trip here. Upon arrival George decided he wanted to go to the pub but as we didn’t know which one we would find and if they would take dogs we had to leave him here, much to his disgust! As it happened we found ‘The Navigation’ (very popular pub name!) near the Castle Lock do let dogs in so, as we are staying here tomorrow night as well, we will take him there tomorrow lunchtime if we can get him to do the walk!

There is also a very convenient Sainsbury’s right near here so we can stock up on Xmas goodies before we bugger off to Gunthorpe. Marvellous.
