Well, we aren’t under 2 ft of snow although there have been some heavy snow showers today, but it has yet to settle. We are now just above Kegworth Deep Lock. We have come a whole 6 miles from Loughborough! I have to say in this freezing weather we are finding 3 hours on the back of the boat is enough!
We would have braved the cold and gone on to Trent Lock today (another 3 miles, 4 locks and about 2 hours) but the river level here is in the red again and it started to snow quite heavily when we got here. We went to look at the shallow lock about half a mile downstream to see what the levels were like after that. George came along eagerly in the hope that there would be a handily situated pub ……………………..and lo and behold the ‘Anchor’ hoved into view! It would have been churlish not to patronise them! A very nice pub full of, the OAP Lunch Club and a group of, disgustingly attired, cyclists of a certain age! We were the only ones actually in the bar drinking.
Tomorrow we hope to make it into Nottingham if all goes well.
