Well, we are back once more, at the goldfish bowl that is our mooring! We had a good trip back, although somewhat longer than we had anticipated, due to our inverter packing up! This meant that when we stopped running the engine we had no 240v electric to run the fridge, freezer and tv. So instead of doing Kilby to Thurmaston in 2 goes we had to do it all in one to get back on the electric hook up.
However, it was a lovely day (after the obligatory wet start!) and we made good progress. This was due in part to the locks being in our favour but also to the lovely BW man who was clearing weeds at the locks and opened all the gates for us up to Aylestone. So the 17 lock, 12 mile journey took 7 hours, not bad.
We can’t have anything done regarding our knackered inverter until next Tuesday as Mark is off until then but now we are on the electric hookup it doesn’t matter. A serious clean of the boat is in order over the next few days ready for our Xmas foray back to Gunthorpe. As travelling and boat cleaning don’t seem to go together, not with us anyway, we have let things slide a bit! To this end Ken is currently reading the paper and I am, of course, writing this! George is asleep and no help at all, as usual!
