Hi Again,
Thanks to the wonderfully erratic 3 mobile broadband I have been unable to update until now.
We spent a lovely weekend at Gunthorpe. Saturday was REALLY hot as I have already said. Mum and Dave arrived on Sunday (along with an unfortunate change in the weather!) and we just messed around at the boat. Mum brought a very nice Corned Beef and Cheese Pie (yum!)
Monday we decided to go for a trip up the Trent to Farndon. This was to incorporate a trip to the facilities at Hazelford Ferry Lock to empty the elsan as the Gunthorpe ones were out of action. Unfortunately the Hazelford ones were too! The nearest working ones being the other side of Newark or back at Stoke Lock meant the conveniences weren’t very convenient!! As we have a spare cassette this was not critical (yet) so we travelled on past Hazelford and Fiskerton to Farndon. Here were some very convenient BW secure moorings and a pub (or so we thought!). Almost disastrously for some reason our BW key wouldn’t operate the padlock on the gate! However, as luck would have it there was someone we knew already moored there and he lent us his key.
Having escaped from the secure moorings we discovered the pub was shut! Another disaster! There was a very chic bistro type place next door with outside (heated) seating so we went there. After Ken and Dave had got over the shock of the prices we had a drink and shared some (very expensive) designer crisps. We decided to forgo lunch as we would have needed to take out a mortgage to pay for it!
After this, not altogether successful, lunchtime excursion we made our way back to Gunthorpe for the evening. We had a very acceptable meal in the Unicorn with Mum and Dave.
Tuesday Dave drove us into Newark where we did some essential (beer mainly!) shopping and visited the BW office to get a new, proper key. After lunch he and Mum went home. A lovely and at times eventful weekend.
Cheers B.
